Brief. One of the founders of il manifesto, who helped shape the history of communism in Italy, is dead at 86.

Valentino Parlato, il manifesto co-founder, has died

Valentino Parlato, one of the founders of il manifesto, who has continued to edit and oversee the publishing cooperative, died on Tuesday.

He was born in Tripoli, Libya, on Feb. 7, 1931.

A communist all his life, Parlato was a member of the Italian Communist Party until the expulsion in 1969, worked at the politics magazine Rinascita, and founded and defended il manifesto during its long history.

We’ll say more later, but meanwhile we embrace his strong, wonderful family and all the comrades, who, like us, knew him and loved him.
