Looking over the record of the past 70 years, it is almost a miracle that the world has been spared nuclear war. Threats have mounted so high today that the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists advanced its Doomsday clock right after Trump’s election to the closest it has been to midnight — terminal disaster — since 1953, when the U.S. and USSR exploded H-bombs. It is heartening to see global efforts to put an end to this horror, and to see them honored.
