The bromance era between Donald Trump and Elon Musk is now a faint memory, buried under vitriolic posts. The current casus belli is Tesla’s CEO blasting the president’s signature spending bill, which Musk brands “a massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill … a disgusting abomination.” Since Saturday he has been continuously posting broadsides against the bill on X as soon as it hit the Senate floor (Congress passed the law).

“It’s totally insane – it will destroy millions of U.S. jobs and cause immense damage,” Musk warned, adding in another post that the draft was “utterly insane and destructive” and would hand cash to yesterday’s industries at the expense of those of the future. Trump fired back on his Truth Social network that Musk “may be the person who receives the most government subsidies ever, and without them he’d have to close up shop and head back to South Africa. If we stopped rocket launches, satellites or electric-car production, our country would save a FORTUNE.”

He continued: “Doge is the monster that might have to go back and eat Elon. Wouldn’t that be terrible?” he joked, referring to the “government efficiency” agency Musk once helmed. Landing in Florida for the inauguration of the “Alligator Alcatraz” detention complex, Trump insisted Musk’s real gripe was the bill’s scrapping of electric-vehicle tax credits. Asked whether deporting the billionaire was on the table, he replied he would “take a look.”

Pouring more fuel on the clash between the world’s most powerful man and its richest, Musk vowed to bankroll primary challengers next year against every Republican “traitor” who voted for the bill. Even worse for the GOP establishment, he warned on X that, if the measure is passed, “tomorrow I’ll found the America Party,” reviving the third-party threat he first floated during an earlier remote clash with Trump.
