34,361
On Friday, il manifesto is publishing 'Fortress Europe,' a special section on the 34,361 people killed by European immigration policies.
Il manifesto is participating in the initiative led by The Guardian in Britain and Tagesspiegel in Germany, documenting the 34,361 victims of the journey to Europe’s shores over the last 15 years. A free, 56-page issue will appear on newsstands around Italy on Friday, June 22, with the names of every person whose death is documented.
The actual number of refugees and migrants who have died during their journey is unfortunately much higher. But the Dutch association United for Intercultural Action has managed to compile the most comprehensive list of documented and ascertained victims ever created, including their names and the circumstances of their death.
The graphic version of the list was produced by The Guardian in collaboration with the Turkish artist Banu Cennetoğlu, the Chisenhale Gallery in London and the Liverpool Biennale.
