Letter. The faculties of the universities of Rojava and Kobane have pursued science and knowledge through years of war. Now a Turkish invasion threatens these values.

Appeal from the universities of Rojava and Kobane

We as the universities of Rojava and Kobane affirm that history testifies another conspiracy against our resilient people. For seven years, the Kurdish people of Rojava and Northern Syria have responded to the attacks of mercenaries who came from all over the world and thus defended all humanity. Today, however, these same resilient people are facing a systematic international attack. Although the Turkish state is on the front lines, there are international forces behind it. These forces, who once blessed the resistance of the Kurdish people against ISIS, today, for their corrupt interests, have assented to, and are even participating in, the attack against the Kurds.

The citizens of Russia, the United States and other countries were killed by ISIS and with the coordination of the Turkish state. But today these same forces lead the way for the Turkish state — the caretaker of ISIS and its mercenaries, working on behalf of the neo-Ottomans to slaughter the Kurdish people.

The Turkish state and its mercenaries of ISIS, Jabhat al-Nusra, Ahrar al-Sham and others attack places of social, historical and scientific value and destroy, kill and loot them. The entire world is witnessing the sabotage of the Turkish state and its mercenaries in Afrin, Palmyra, Mosul, Raqqa and Husankaif.

We as teachers, students and staff at the universities of Rojava and Kobane, despite the attacks of the Turkish state, have been pursuing science and knowledge for three years. Unfortunately, today, all the efforts, values and sanctities of universities and schools are seriously endangered by state terrorism.

We at the universities of Rojava and Kobane believe that science and knowledge are, above all, the sacred values of society which guarantees a sense of morality and a respect for all. We will remain worthy of those values, and we will resist until the end. Meanwhile, we appeal to all academic figures, universities and international academies to condemn these barbaric attacks and raise their voice against them. Declare that science, knowledge and culture are the principles of human dignity.

Long live the resistance of Rojava and northern Syria.
